There are so many reasons making your own spice mixes at home are better for you. Here are just a few that keep me coming back to mixing my own blends…
#1 You know what’s in it. You can chose quality, organic spices if that is important to you. You can control the sodium added. You can be sure there isn’t any other hidden preservatives or MSG.
#2 You can customize mixes to your preferences and really make your meals satisfying to you and your family.
#3 You can make larger portions for mixes you use most and save yourself some time!
- 4 tbsp Chili powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder this is one spice I never compromise on and ALWAYS use THIS brand
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp oregano
- 2 tsp paprika
- 2 tbsp cumin
- 4 tsp sea salt
- 4 tsp pepper
Mix all ingredients in a jar and shake well to mix together. Use 2 tbsp per pound of meat you’re cooking. You can add 1/4 – 1/2 cup of water to make a taco sauce mixture.
You can double the recipe to have it made ahead to make for faster dinners.
Use organic spices when possible. It *does* make a difference in flavor. My favorite brand is Simply Organic.
